Fabio Franchino

Fabio Franchino is a full professor of political science at the University of Milan and an expert in EU governance. He has held academic positions at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and University College London (UCL), where he contributed to establishing the School of Public Policy. Currently, he serves as co-editor of the Italian Political Science Review (Cambridge University Press) and associate editor of European Union Politics (SAGE). He also held leadership roles, including president of the European Political Science Association (2016-2018) and treasurer of ECPR's Standing Group on the European Union.

Franchino's educational background includes a bachelor's degree from the University of Brighton, a master's from Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milan, and a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His doctoral thesis, The Executive Politics of the European Union, was published as The Powers of the Union by Cambridge University Press in 2007.

His research focuses on European Union politics, executive governance, and public policy. He explores topics such as EU bureaucracy's role, fiscal discipline within the EU, and the dynamics between lawmakers and bureaucrats. His work contributes to understanding the institutional frameworks and decision-making processes within the European Union.

Recent activities include organizing events such as Executive power and control: Why do lawmakers trust and distrust EU bureaucrats? (2022) and Fiscal discipline, Italy, EU oversight: EU policy and policy making @UAIC (2021), reflecting his continued engagement with EU policy analysis and academic collaboration.
