Professor Fabienne Viala is affiliated with the University of Warwick as a faculty member in the Faculty of Arts, specifically within the Department of Hispanic Studies. She also serves as the Director of the Yesu Persaud Centre for Caribbean Studies.

Her research focuses on Caribbean cultural production, particularly the intersection of memory, reparations for slavery, and cultural nationalism. She explores postcolonial literature, historical novels, and climate fiction in the Caribbean and Hispanic worlds.
She was awarded the Mellon Fellowship in Postcolonial, Latin American, and Caribbean Literatures and has authored notable monographs such as The Post-Columbus Syndrome: Identities, Cultural Nationalism and Commemorations in the Caribbean (2014).
As an academic, she teaches modules on Latin American Counterpoints and Climate Fictions in the Hispanic World, and her current projects analyze reparations for slavery and artistic responses to racial and climate injustices in the Caribbean.
