Fabian Helmrich is a DPhil Researcher at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics. He holds a BA in Russian and Serbian/Croatian from UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) and an MPhil in Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics from Oxford. His research focuses on endangered languages and language contact phenomena, particularly Istro-Romanian (Vlashki/Zheyanski), a Romance variety in Croatia influenced by Slavic and Venetian languages.

Additional interests include queer linguistics, Balkan Sprachbund dynamics, and language-nation intersections. His publications explore topics like linguistic borrowing in the Danube region and Slavic oral traditions.
