Fa-ti Fan is a Professor in the Department of History at Binghamton University, specializing in the history of science and modern China. His research bridges three interconnected areas: environmental sciences, 20th-century China, and the interplay of science and empire. He has authored the book British Naturalists in Qing China: Science, Empire, and Cultural Encounter (2004; Chinese translation 2011) and numerous essays in history and science studies.
