Prof. Frieder Mugele is a full Professor of Physics of Complex Fluids at the University of Twente since 2004. He leads a research group of ~25 members at the intersection of physics, chemistry, and technological applications, focusing on fluid dynamics at interfaces across molecular to macroscopic scales.
- Education: PhD in Physics (University of Konstanz, 1997)
- Postdoctoral: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Humboldt Fellow, 1998-1999)
His research spans electrowetting, dynamic wetting, drop dynamics, two-phase microfluidics, AFM spectroscopy in fluids, nanofluidics, and optofluidics. Applications include inkjet printing, immersion lithography, and lab-on-a-chip systems. He collaborates with the MESA+ Institute and contributes to i-FIT training programs in fluid dynamics.
- Key Scientific Recognition: Humboldt Fellow
The group combines fundamental studies (e.g., confined liquids, colloidal interactions) with applied projects in industrial and biomedical contexts. His work bridges experimental techniques with theoretical modeling of interfacial fluid behavior.
