Dr. F. Richard Yu is a Full Professor at the School of Information Technology, Carleton University. He received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2003 and has held academic and industry roles at Ericsson and a California start-up (2002-2006) before joining Carleton in 2007.
- Research Areas: Cyber-physical systems, connected/autonomous vehicles, security, blockchain, deep learning, machine learning, Internet of Things, network technology, and data science.
His work has influenced industry standards and commercial products, impacting millions globally. He has published over 800 papers with 50,000+ citations and an H-index of 118. He serves as Area Editor for IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials and Lead Series Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology.
- Scientific Awards: IEEE Outstanding Service Award, IEEE Outstanding Leadership Award, Carleton Research Achievement Awards (2012, 2021), Ontario Early Researcher Award (2011), CFI Leadership Opportunity Fund Award (2009), and multiple Best Paper Awards.
