F. Andrew Hanssen is a Professor of Economics in the John E. Walker Department of Economics at Clemson University's Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business. He holds a PhD and MBA from the University of Chicago, and MA and BA degrees from Johns Hopkins University. Before entering academia, he worked internationally as a management consultant in Europe, Latin America, and the Far East. Dr. Hanssen joined Clemson in 2010 following positions at Montana State University and Colby College.
His research specializes in institutional economics, law and economics, political economy, and industrial organization, with significant work on historical economic systems and entertainment industry economics. He maintains editorial positions at the International Review of Law and Economics and Social Science Quarterly.
Dr. Hanssen's publications demonstrate consistent focus on institutional evolution across three primary domains: historical political systems (particularly ancient Greece), regulation in entertainment industries, and property rights development. His recent work shows increasing emphasis on antitrust economics in digital media markets while maintaining strong historical institutional analysis.
