Charles J Thomas is a Clinical Professor in the John E. Walker Department of Economics at Clemson University and an Affiliated Research Scientist at Chapman University’s Economic Science Institute and Argyros School of Business & Economics. His research focuses on industrial organization, antitrust policy, and game-theoretic modeling of competitive and collusive behaviors in markets.

Thomas’s work frequently examines procurement competition, horizontal mergers, and environmental policy mechanisms through experimental economics and theoretical frameworks. His studies compare auctions and multilateral negotiations, analyze product differentiation impacts, and investigate reserve prices as collusion deterrents. Recent publications include studies on consumer surplus implications of mergers and negotiation impatience dynamics.
He has held prior academic roles at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (Bureau of Economics) and as Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester’s Simon School and Clemson University.
