Ezer Kang is a Professor of Psychology at Howard University, affiliated with the Clinical Psychology PhD program and the College of Arts & Sciences. He also serves as an Affiliate Professor at Howard University Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda. His academic roles include teaching courses on psychopathology, neuropsychological assessment, cognitive psychology, and ethics in health service psychology.
Education includes a B.A. in Psychology & Religious Studies from New York University (1992), M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary (1996/1999), followed by a pre-doctoral internship at Boston University Medical Center and a post-doctoral fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
His research focuses on HIV stigma, global mental health, and the intersection of poverty, community dynamics, and health outcomes. Key areas include HIV/AIDS in marginalized populations across the US, Rwanda, Nigeria, India, Thailand, and Guatemala. He directs the Global Community Health Lab, emphasizing participatory research with communities affected by HIV and poverty.
Notable awards include two Distinguished Faculty Awards from Howard University (2019-20 Scholar; 2024-25 Teaching Excellence), SAMHSA’s APA Policy Fellowship (2023), and multiple Fulbright Specialist roles in Africa and Asia. His NIH-funded research includes improving child mental health access in Nigeria and examining HIV stigma in global contexts.
Grants and collaborations span international partnerships, including work with the University of Ibadan (Nigeria), University of Global Health Equity (Rwanda), and Chiang Mai University (Thailand). His work bridges clinical practice, community engagement, and policy advocacy, particularly in faith-based organizations and post-conflict societies.
Lab/Team: The Global Community Health Lab focuses on participatory-action research, structural interventions, and global health equity, collaborating with local stakeholders to address HIV/AIDS, mental health stigma, and poverty-driven health disparities.
