Eylan Yutuc is a Lecturer and MSc Program Manager in Biomedical Sciences at Swansea University's School of Medicine. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Science from Brunel University London (2011) and a PhD in Medical and Healthcare Studies from Swansea University (2013). His research focuses on lipid biochemistry, mass spectrometry techniques, and neurobiology, particularly investigating cholesterol metabolism in neurological disorders. He collaborates with Professors William Griffiths and Yuqin Wang on projects like the 3D sterol atlas of the mouse brain.
Yutuc's work spans neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s), multiple sclerosis, and rare conditions like cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis. He develops novel mass spectrometry methods for oxysterol profiling and lipidomics, contributing to understanding neurophysiological and neuropathological mechanisms. His research has been published in high-impact journals like Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Science Translational Medicine.
He teaches advanced modules in biomedical science, including lipid analysis techniques and research methodologies. Yutuc is actively involved in postgraduate supervision and serves as a member of the British Society for Mass Spectrometry and Royal Society of Chemistry.
