Professor Ewen Speed is Professor of Medical Sociology at the University of Essex School of Health and Social Care. His research examines health policy through critical sociological lenses, focusing on citizenship in NHS systems, patient engagement, and critiques of psychology/psychiatry. He chairs the Critical Public Health Network and serves as Associate Editor for Journal of Critical Public Health.

Recent publications analyze pandemic policymaking through bioethical frameworks, literacy barriers in Roma/Traveller communities, and the impact of right-wing populism on health systems.
