His research examines how commercial architects, contractors, and clients shaped mid-20th-century architectural production, particularly in West Africa. Key themes include colonial trade networks, decolonization, and the material culture of corporate architecture. His upcoming monographs on Richard Seifert and the United Africa Company expand these inquiries.
Article trends highlight his focus on tropical modernism, post-war reconstruction, and the socio-economic dynamics of British colonial architecture in Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Topics like prefabricated steel structures, neocolonial investments, and profit-driven modernist design dominate his recent work.
Harrison actively mentors PhD students, with research interests aligning with colonial architecture, architectural historiography, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Education/Academic Qualification. He previously curated the Royal Institute of British Architects Collections in London.
