Ewan Gibbs is a Lecturer in Global Inequalities at the School of Social & Political Sciences, University of Glasgow. His research focuses on historical political economy, energy transitions, and deindustrialization, with a particular emphasis on labour, community experiences, and nationalism in energy economies. He currently holds a BA-Wolfson fellowship (2022–2024) exploring decarbonization policies and energy transitions in the UK. His work combines oral histories with archival research, as seen in his doctoral study on Scottish coalfields and a Carnegie Trust-funded project on Scottish nationalism and fuel economies.
Research interests include the intersection of energy sectors with political and social structures, the legacy of deindustrialization, and the role of activism in resisting plant closures. Recent activities include organizing the Energy Cafe (April 2021) and contributing to discussions on energy history through blogs and events like the St Andrews Botanic Garden's Summer Art Nights (July 2024).
