معرفی
Dr. Alfonso Martinez-Felipe is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen. He is an active researcher in energy transition, hydrogen systems, and functional materials, with leadership roles in the Centre for Energy Transition and external collaborations across Europe and Asia. He supervises PhD students in Engineering and Chemistry and teaches core courses in chemical engineering and energy systems.
Education:
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Universitat Politècnica de València
- PhD in Chemistry, University of Aberdeen
- MSc International Master in Materials and Sensors Systems for Environmental Technologies, Universitat Politècnica de València & University of Bologna
- BSc Chemical Engineering, Universitat Politècnica de València
His research focuses on hydrogen energy, sustainable materials, and smart functional systems, especially liquid crystals and polymer electrolytes. He integrates molecular design with energy applications, particularly in green hydrogen, fuel cells, and energy storage. His recent publications reflect strong trends in offshore energy integration, hydrogen transportation, and photoresponsive materials for energy conversion. He has led and co-led multiple research grants from the Royal Society, Royal Society of Edinburgh, British Academy, and UK-HyRES, supporting innovative work in hydrogen economies and smart materials. His scientific contributions are complemented by active service as a reviewer, external examiner, and grant evaluator. He leads the MSc in Decommissioning and the MSc in Energy Transition Systems and Technologies and mentors student teams like PrototAU, which builds hydrogen-powered vehicles. He is a member of the British Liquid Crystal Society, Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Association, and the Energy Task Force, reinforcing his role in national and international energy research networks.
Scientific Awards and Recognition:
- Editorial Board Member, Molecules (2019–present)
- External Examiner, MSc Sustainable Chemical Engineering, University of Newcastle (2023)
- Reviewer for over 20 journals including ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Polymer, and Liquid Crystals
- Grant Evaluator for Carnegie Trust, British Council, European Commission
Dr. Martinez-Felipe advises PhD students in energy and materials research and has supervised doctoral work on liquid crystal polymers and perovskite proton conductors. His lab and research group focus on synthesizing and characterizing novel materials for energy applications, often in collaboration with institutions in Malaysia, Spain, Japan, and Italy. Future work includes expanding hydrogen economy models, developing light-responsive energy harvesters, and advancing sustainable materials from biomass.
