Ewa Ochman is a Senior Lecturer in East European Studies and History at The University of Manchester. She holds a PhD in Contemporary Polish History from the University of Salford and an MA in Polish Language and Literature from Jagiellonian University. Her research focuses on 20th-century Central and Eastern Europe, emphasizing state-sponsored history, war remembrance, decommunisation, and urban memory. She leads the project 'Cultural Heritage and Street Renaming,' engaging Polish communities in the UK to explore memory and identity through street names.
Her teaching spans Russian and East European History, Holocaust Studies, nationalism, and collective memory. She has supervised over a dozen PhD students, including notable works on post-Soviet Ukraine, Moldova, and Polish-Jewish relations. Ochman has received prestigious fellowships from RCUK and the Leverhulme Trust, supporting her research on WWII commemoration in Poland.
Her recent publications examine de-communisation, post-Soviet public space, and the recovery of historical narratives. She actively participates in academic conferences and workshops, advocating for inclusive memory practices and European history education.
