Anastasia Felcher

Anastasia Felcher is a historian and cultural heritage specialist affiliated with the Central European University (CEU) in Vienna and the Blinken OSA Archivum in Budapest. She holds the rank of Visiting Professor in the Cultural Heritage Studies Program at CEU and serves as Slavic Archivist at Blinken OSA, curating collections related to Jewish studies, Samizdat archives, and Soviet-era materials. Her research focuses on borderland cultural history, memory studies, and post-Soviet heritage dynamics, with particular attention to Holocaust memory, minority histories, and contested identities in East-Central Europe.

Education: PhD in Management and Development of Cultural Heritage (IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, 2016), MA in Comparative History of Central Europe (CEU, 2010), Licentiate in Anthropology (University High Anthropological School, Moldova, 2008).

Research Interests: She investigates the interplay of cultural heritage and political memory in contested regions, including the transformation of Soviet-era monuments, the role of museums in shaping collective memory, and the legacy of Cold War borderlands. Her current book project explores Jewish heritage post-1989 and transnational memory around Babyn Yar.

Awards/Fellowships: Multiple prestigious fellowships including Gerda Henkel, Leibniz Institute, and German Historical Institute grants. Active in international research networks like PoSoCoMeS (Post-Socialist Memory Studies).

Teaching: Teaches courses on memory studies, public history, and cultural heritage management at CEU. Recent courses include 'Power of Images: Memory and Visual Culture' and 'Cultural Heritage and Memory Studies.'

Publications: Over 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics like Alexander Pushkin’s contested legacy, Transnistrian conflict memory, and Holocaust archives. Upcoming books on Jewish heritage transitions and Pushkin’s borderland narratives.
