Evren Balta is a Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Özyeğin University, specializing in Comparative Politics and International Politics with research focusing on security, internal conflict, Turkish foreign policy, populism, and citizenship.
Her educational background includes:

- B.A. in International Relations from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences (1995)
Dr. Balta’s research critically examines transnational citizenship dynamics, security complexes, and democratic challenges in Turkish politics, with emphasis on populism’s impact on foreign policy and internal conflict resolution. Her interdisciplinary work bridges sociology and political science to analyze global governance and identity politics.
She has received the American Sociological Association’s Best Book by an International Scholar Award for The American Passport in Turkey and CUNY’s Distinguished Alumni Award (2018).
Research funding includes grants from the Fulbright Scholar Program, Mellon Foundation, American Association of University Women, and Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Dr. Balta serves as Academic Coordinator of the TÜSİAD Global Politics Forum, advises Turkish political parties and civil society organizations, and contributes regularly to international media on democracy and foreign policy.
