Dr. Everton Ellis is an Assistant Professor of Social Justice at Mount Saint Vincent University's Faculty of Education. His research employs anti-racism and postcolonial frameworks to examine equity in educational systems, with particular focus on Black learners in Jamaican and Canadian contexts. With five years of secondary teaching experience in Ontario's diverse school boards, Dr. Ellis bridges scholarly work with classroom practice.
His research interests center on anti-Black racism, culturally responsive pedagogies, and the implementation of diversity initiatives in school leadership. He has undertaken significant organizational change work at the University of Toronto, contributing to the establishment of the Centre for Black Studies in Education.
Recent publications analyze educational inequities through sociological and critical theory lenses, examining labor market integration of international students, gender dynamics in Caribbean education, and settler nationalism in Canadian commemorative practices.
