Dr Evelyn Wang is a Lecturer at the Law Department of Northumbria University, affiliated with Northumbria Law School. She joined in January 2024 and teaches modules like Environment and Sustainability, Human Rights and Law Reform, and Law and Society. Her research focuses on constitutional environmental mechanisms, human rights law, climate change, and China’s ecological civilization construction. She holds a PhD in Law from Newcastle University (2024), an LLM in International Law (2017), and a PGCert in Research Training (2020).
Her research explores environmental constitutionalism, rights-based approaches to environmental protection, and the interplay between environmental law and constitutional/human rights frameworks. Key areas include China’s legal frameworks, comparative environmental governance, and access to environmental justice. She has published in journals like Journal of Environmental Law and Asia Pacific Journal of Environmental Law.
Evelyn has undertaken peer reviews for leading law journals and delivered guest lectures at Fudan University and East China University of Science and Technology. She actively participates in international networks like the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental protection and legal justice.
Recipient of the JEL Richard Macrory Prize for Best Article (2024), she is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She supervises PhD students aligning with her research interests in environmental law and governance.
