Dr. Evelyn Svingen is an Assistant Professor in Criminology at the Department of Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology, School of Social Policy and Society, University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on biosocial mechanisms of crime etiology, integrating evolutionary psychology, behavioural economics, and game theory experiments to understand group cooperation and its links to criminal behavior.
- PhD in Criminology (2021) and MPhil in Criminological Research (2017) from the University of Cambridge
- BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences (cum laude, 2016) from University College Maastricht
Her research interests include:
- Evolutionary Criminology and the Retribution and Reciprocity Model
- Neuroscience of antisocial behavior
- Quantitative research methods
- Epistemological debates in criminological theory
- Interdisciplinary teaching and learning
- Mental health and crime
Evelyn welcomes research students interested in biosocial criminology, forensic psychology, and crime theories. She has also contributed to Higher Education research, particularly in educational assessment and digital divide issues.
