Evelyn Cruz is a Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Immigration Clinic at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. She specializes in representing immigrant children in foster care and teaches U.S. Immigration Law and Asylum. Her research focuses on Legal Clinical Theory, Transmigration, Migrant Children, and Procedural Transparency.
Educated at the University of California, Santa Cruz (B.A.), Santa Clara University College of Law (J.D.), and currently a Ph.D. candidate in Transborder Studies at ASU, her work emphasizes bilingual Latino lawyers’ communication strategies and access to justice for marginalized populations. Internationally, she developed Voz de las Victimas, fostering partnerships between educational, governmental, and civil society institutions to improve legal services for vulnerable groups.
Her articles highlight challenges in transmigration rights, immigration enforcement conflicts, and systemic injustices faced by noncitizen defendants. Courses taught include Immigration Law, Clinical Seminars, and Independent Studies.
Her advocacy spans Pakistan, Mexico, and El Salvador, integrating legal clinics and internships to enhance law graduate professionalism while expanding legal assistance accessibility. Currently, she leads the Immigration Clinic, blending practical training with impactful community service.
