Eve Bernstein

Eve Bernstein is a Professor in the Department of Family Nutrition and Exercise Sciences at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). She serves as Graduate Coordinator and Advisor for the Physical Education Teacher Education Program. Her research focuses on curriculum design and implementation of competitive activities in physical education, with emphasis on multicultural education, student perceptions, and teacher pedagogy.

Education: Ed.D. (Teachers College, Columbia University), Ed.M. (Teachers College, Columbia University), M.S. (Brooklyn College, CUNY), B.A. (Barnard College, Columbia University).

Research Interests: Curriculum development in physical education, competitive activity design, teacher cognition, and equity in PE. She has published extensively on topics such as student attitudes toward competition, pre-service teacher training, and social justice in physical education. Her work frequently employs longitudinal studies and mixed-methods approaches.

Key Awards: FIEP World Board Director (2018-2024), CUNY Travel Awards, and Eastern District Association Margaret Paulding Lecturer. She has secured grants totaling over $15,000 for research on multicultural student engagement and teacher training.

Teaching: Courses include graduate-level research methods, curriculum development, and undergraduate physical education foundations. She co-developed hybrid courses like Research Methods for Physical Education and Family and Consumer Science.

Professional Leadership: Active in FIEP, AERA, and SHAPE America. Delivered keynote addresses at international conferences in Japan, Turkey, and Malaysia. Served as regional leader for UNESCO’s 4th Worldwide School Physical Education Survey.
