She serves as Director of the TIGRE interuniversity seminar and was an Honorary member of the Institut Universitaire de France from 2016-2021. Professor Stead's research spans multiple areas of comparative literature and print culture with expertise in the reception of heritage texts, Greek and Latin myths in modern literature, Western and Arabic literary traditions (particularly 'The Thousand and Second Night'), Goethe's Faust in visual culture, reading with images, and fin-de-siècle aesthetics. Her work bridges European and Arabic literary contexts with particular attention to periodicals as cultural mediators and the visual representation of literary works. She has organized international conferences including the 7th ESPRIT conference in 2018 on periodicals in the ecology of print and visual culture and the 2023 conference on Metamorphoses of the Arabian Nights.
Stead's publication record reveals a consistent scholarly trajectory focused on comparative literature, print culture, and text-image relationships. Her recent works demonstrate increasing sophistication in analyzing periodicals as cultural ecosystems rather than isolated publications, with attention to transnational networks and material circulation. The recurring themes across her publications include the adaptation of classical myths in modern contexts, the materiality of print culture, and the visual representation of literary works across European and Arabic traditions.
