Evan Westra is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Purdue University, where he focuses on the philosophy of social cognition at the intersection of philosophy of cognitive science, moral psychology, and social philosophy. He also serves as an area editor for the journal Ergo.
His primary research interests include:
- Philosophy of social cognition and theory of mind
- Character judgment and psychology of norms
- Ethics of public discourse
- Philosophy of animal minds and behavior
- Mental representation
Westra's scholarly work has been published in numerous prestigious journals including Mind & Language, Cognition, Philosophy & Public Affairs, The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Erkenntnis, Philosophical Studies, and others across both philosophy and cognitive science disciplines.
Before joining Purdue, Westra held postdoctoral positions at York University and the University of Toronto, and was previously an instructor at the University of Rochester. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he maintains an active academic presence through ResearchGate, Google Scholar, and Bluesky where he engages with philosophical topics and the academic community.
