Evan Vance

Evan Vance is an Assistant Professor and MacNaughton Chair in Classics at McGill University's Department of History and Classical Studies. He holds an MA (2016) and PhD (2022) from University of California, Berkeley, and an AB from Dartmouth College (2013).

His research examines the intersection of religious and economic practices in archaic and classical Greece, with current projects on sacred wealth's role in institutional development. Additional interests include classical education in Native North America and Greek religious finances. As assistant editor for Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum, he reviews Greek epigraphy publications spanning the 8th century BCE to 8th century CE.

Before joining McGill, he spent five years at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens as both graduate student and postdoctoral fellow.
