University of Michigan-Ann Arborمعرفی
Evan S. Snitkin is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. He holds dual appointments in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Division of Infectious Diseases. His research focuses on antibiotic resistance evolution, bacterial genomics, and the genomic epidemiology of healthcare-associated pathogens. Snitkin is a member of the Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics and leads the Snitkin Lab, which bridges basic and clinical research to combat microbial threats.
Evan earned his PhD in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from Boston University (2009) and a BS from SUNY Binghamton (2002). His work has been supported by significant funding, including a $10M NIH award establishing the Michigan Infectious Disease Genomics (MIDGE) Center. This center uses whole-genome sequencing to study pathogen behavior and transmission dynamics.
His research interests emphasize understanding microbial systems evolution through multi-omic data analysis and applying genomics to study healthcare-associated infections. Recent work includes studies on Candida auris colonization mechanisms, nursing home pathogen transmission, and Klebsiella pneumoniae virulence adaptation. Snitkin collaborates widely, contributing to global frameworks for antimicrobial resistance surveillance and healthcare policy.
