Eva Wiesmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Interpretation and Translation at the University of Bologna, where she has worked since 2014. She holds a PhD in Romance Studies (Italian) from the University of Mainz (2003), with a thesis on legal translation tools, and a Bachelor's Degree in Translation from the University of Mainz (1988), with a focus on French and Italian.
Research interests include specialized translation (particularly legal), specialized languages, notarial language diachronically and contrastively, lexicography and terminology, translation pedagogy, and easy language. Her work bridges theoretical and applied linguistics, with a strong emphasis on legal translation processes and educational frameworks.
Scientific awards:
- 2004 Mainz University Prize for best doctoral thesis
Grants and projects include participation in the Eurolect Observatory Project (2017-2020), the international MUST project (2018), and coordination of the FARB CODE project (2013-2015) cataloging European language teaching competencies. She co-founded the Permanent Laboratory of Sector-Specific Translation at Bologna (2006-present), funded by departmental resources.
