Eva Portelance is an incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal. Her research bridges AI and Cognitive Science, focusing on how humans and machines learn language and solve complex problems. Previously, she held postdoctoral positions at Mila – Québec AI Institute and McGill University's NLP Group, collaborating with Timothy O'Donnell and Siva Reddy.
Eva earned her PhD in computational/cognitive linguistics from Stanford University, co-advised by Dan Jurafsky and Mike C. Frank, as part of the Stanford NLP Group and Language and Cognition Lab. She actively participates in academic panels and talks, including events exploring Large Language Models (LLMs) and their implications for language acquisition and cognitive science.
