Eva Morales Bartolome is a Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Murcia's Faculty of Medicine. Her research focuses on Public Health and Epidemiology, particularly maternal and child health, environmental exposures, and respiratory conditions like asthma. She leads the Public Health and Epidemiology research group and contributed to the Animal Reproduction research group.
She obtained her Doctorate from the University of Murcia in 2004 with a thesis on 'Efecto del envejecimiento y de la exposición a fotoperiodo corto en el epitelio seminífero de hámster (Mesocricetus auratus). Proliferación y apoptosis. Vías moleculares de la apoptosis', supervised by Dr. Luis Miguel Pastor García and Dr. Adelina Zuasti Elizondo.
Her research interests emphasize the interplay between environmental factors (e.g., pollutants, dietary patterns) and health outcomes, with a focus on pregnancy, early childhood development, and immune system programming. Key areas include prenatal exposure to xenoestrogens, vitamin D's role in neurodevelopment, and asthma epidemiology.
Her recent studies, part of the NELA Birth Cohort project, investigate dietary exposures, metal toxicity in infants, and exhaled breath analysis for asthma differentiation. Notable findings include links between maternal folic acid compliance and DNA methylation, and associations between traffic-related air pollution and neonatal immune dysfunction.
Her work integrates molecular epidemiology, clinical data, and large-scale cohort analyses to address global health challenges like asthma prevalence trends and obesity-related metabolic risks. She collaborates internationally through initiatives like the Global Asthma Network.
