Eva-Karin Heiskanen is a Professor at the University of Helsinki, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Centre for Consumer Society Research. Her work focuses on sustainability transitions, energy policy, and climate governance. Currently leading the MaterialDe project (2024-2027) and contributing to initiatives like the KULO and ENCIT projects, she examines equitable energy transitions and sustainable consumption practices.
Her research spans policy instruments for sustainable housing, latent networks in renewable energy adoption, and regional disparities in electrification. Notable projects include analyzing climate action engagement, long-term impacts of energy-saving interventions, and circular economy frameworks. Heiskanen has advised over 30 institutions and contributed to 11 media discussions on topics like energy cooperatives and fair climate policies.
Publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, blending social sciences with policy analysis. Current projects investigate polarization reduction through material participation and fair energy transition metrics. She serves as a principal investigator and doctoral supervisor, with research outputs including 117+ peer-reviewed works and frequent invited talks at global conferences.
