Prof. Dr. Eva Hevia is a leading figure in organometallic and inorganic chemistry, currently serving as a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bern since 2019 and as Deputy Director of the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences since 2024. Previously, she was a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde (2013–2019) and a Royal Society University Research Fellow (2006–2014).
- Education:
- PhD in Organometallic Chemistry, Universidad de Oviedo (2002)
Her research focuses on main group metal chemistry with applications in sustainable synthesis, cooperative effects, and bond activation. Recent work includes s-block metal catalysts, hydrogen isotope exchange, and green solvents. She has published extensively in top journals like Angewandte Chemie, Nature Synthesis, and JACS.
Scientific Awards:
- Royal Society University Research Fellow (2006–2014)
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry
- Arfvedson-Schlenk Award Lecture (2021)
- Corday Morgan Award Lecture (2018)
Her group includes PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds, working on projects ranging from bimetallic cooperativity to catalytic applications of alkali-metal reagents. She also engages in international collaborations and public outreach, including the BioChemistry on Saturday event series.
