Richard J. Puddephatt is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Western Ontario, affiliated with the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on organometallic chemistry with applications in catalysis and materials science, including organometallic polymers and bimetallic complexes. He holds prestigious awards such as the Officer of the Order of Canada and Fellowships from the Royal Society and Royal Society of Canada. Puddephatt teaches advanced inorganic chemistry courses and supervises research projects in organometallic chemistry.
Education:
- B.Sc., University of London
- Ph.D., University College London
Research Interests: Organometallic chemistry of platinum group metals, metal-metal bond models for catalysis, self-assembled molecular materials, and low-temperature chemical vapor deposition. His work spans catalytic mechanisms, materials synthesis, and anion-binding host-guest systems.
Teaching: Courses include Inorganic Chemistry of Main Group Elements, Solid-State Inorganic Chemistry, and specialized organometallic chemistry seminars. He also mentors undergraduate and graduate research projects.
Labs & Facilities: Office and lab spaces in the Chemistry Building (Rm 100 & 102-104 ChB) support his research activities. His lab focuses on synthetic methodologies, materials characterization, and catalytic studies.
