Dr Eva Haifa Giraud is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Media & Society at the University of Sheffield’s School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations. She holds a PhD in Critical Theory from the University of Nottingham (2011) and has held academic roles at Keele University and the University of Nottingham. Her research focuses on activist media ecologies, non-anthropocentric theory, and digital disinformation. She co-leads AHRC and GCRF-funded projects on Islamophobia and environmental storytelling. Giraud’s work bridges theory and praxis, addressing issues like veganism, environmental justice, and anti-racist activism. She is an editorial board member for Cultural Politics and Environmental Humanities.
Education: MA (hons) English Literature (University of Edinburgh, 2006), MA Critical Theory (University of Nottingham, 2007), PhD Critical Theory (University of Nottingham, 2011).
Research Interests: Online hate speech counter-narratives, digital veganism, STS, mediated activism, and lifestyle ethics. Her books include Veganism: Politics, Practice and Theory (2021) and What Comes After Entanglement? (2019).
Awards: Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2015), teaching excellence award (previous institution).
Teaching: Focuses on critical pedagogy, including modules on digital media and global societal challenges. Supervises PhDs on topics like patient activism, media reporting of happiness indexes, and drone warfare’s cultural politics.
