Eva Anagnostou is an Associate Professor in the School of Humanities at Macquarie University. Her research focuses on classical and late antique literature, philosophy, and political thought, with a particular emphasis on reception studies and ancient Mediterranean cultures. She has contributed to understanding the role of eunuchs in Achaemenid Persia, the philosophical underpinnings of Plato’s Laws, and the intersection of leadership representation in Hellenistic and Roman contexts.
Her recent projects include studies on dynastic legitimacy in Seleukid and Ptolemaic kingdoms, gender dynamics in late antique philosophy, and the use of coinage to assert state identity in the Southern Levant. She has collaborated on large-scale initiatives like the Centre for Ancient Cultural Heritage and Environment (CACHE), which explores interdisciplinary approaches to cultural heritage.
Anagnostou’s publications span edited volumes, monographs, and peer-reviewed articles addressing themes such as Constantine’s literary patronage, early Christian exegesis of biblical texts, and the reception of classical ideas in patristic literature. Her work frequently intersects with archaeology, numismatics, and the cultural politics of ancient governance.
She has been featured in media discussions on ancient history topics, including expert commentary on ‘Ancient UAPs’ and ‘Tales from the End of Times.’ Her research demonstrates a commitment to bridging classical antiquity with late antique and Byzantine studies through innovative methodological frameworks.
