Eurydice Georganteli is a scholar specializing in Art History and Numismatics, affiliated with Harvard University's Department of History of Art and Architecture. She previously served as Keeper of Coins at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts and Lecturer on Numismatics at the University of Birmingham, UK (2000-2016), where she led the Birmingham University Graduate Program in Numismatics (2001-2012) and directed European projects on Digital Humanities and Cultural Routes (2012-2016).
Her research focuses on economic and cultural exchange in late antique and medieval Europe and the Middle East, utilizing archaeological evidence, written sources, and transport geography. She has contributed to cultural heritage initiatives, including co-authoring Encounters. Travel and Money in the Byzantine World, which won the Royal Numismatic Society Lhotka Memorial Prize.
Georganteli has received numerous accolades: a 5-year AHRC grant (2007-2012), Clore Fellowship (2008), British Academy Grant (2008-2009), Marie Curie Senior Research Fellowship (2013-2016), and the Jan H Norbø Medal (2011). She also holds twelve Harvard Bok Center Awards for teaching excellence.
She has held curatorial roles at institutions like the British Museum and Fitzwilliam Museum, participated in archaeological fieldwork in Greece (1988-1993), and served as Managing Editor of the Harvard Digital Atlas of Roman and Medieval Civilizations (2018-2020). Currently, she co-directs the Harvard Medieval Material Culture Series and oversees the Harvard Study Abroad Program in Greece.
