معرفی
Eunice Y Chen, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Dartmouth College's Geisel School of Medicine, serving as Dartmouth-Hitchcock Otolaryngology Residency Program Director. She maintains affiliations with the Children's Hospital At Dartmouth, EPR Center, and Dartmouth Cancer Center.
Her education includes:
- BS in Microbiology and Immunology from Stanford University (1992)
- MD/PhD in Cancer Biology from Stanford University (2001)
- Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency at Stanford University Medical Center (2006)
- Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship at University of Washington/Seattle Children's Hospital (2007)
Dr. Chen's research bridges translational engineering and clinical practice, with dual focus on head and neck cancer therapy enhancement and pediatric otolaryngology. Her pioneering work in EPR oximetry enables real-time tissue oxygenation monitoring during cancer treatment, while her pediatric studies investigate glossopharyngeal nerve function, taste disorders, and surgical outcomes in children. This unique combination of engineering innovation and clinical specialization drives novel approaches to improving surgical precision and patient quality of life.
Analysis of her 2014-2019 publications reveals two dominant research trajectories: (1) Development of implantable oxygen sensors and paired-agent imaging systems for head/neck cancer surgery, and (2) Clinical investigations into pediatric ENT conditions including hypogeusia mechanisms and tonsillectomy outcomes. These streams converge in her translational mission to convert engineering advances into tangible clinical benefits.
Dr. Chen has secured significant NIH funding as:
- Co-Primary Investigator on NCI P01 CA190193 (2015-2020) for Clinical EPR Oximetry in cancer therapy
- Co-Investigator on NCI R01 CA212187 (2017-2022) for Paired-agent Imaging in head/neck cancer surgery
She leads research teams at the EPR Center and Dartmouth Cancer Center, developing next-generation oxygenation monitoring systems while directing the Otolaryngology Residency Program. Her work at Children's Hospital At Dartmouth focuses on optimizing pediatric surgical care through evidence-based innovations in nerve preservation and outcome measurement.
