Eugene Gamaly

Associate Professor Eugene Gamaly is affiliated with the Department of Quantum Science & Technology at the Australian National University. His research focuses on high-temperature/high-density plasma physics, ultra-short laser-matter interactions, and nanocluster formation via laser ablation.

• Education: MSc (Moscow State University, Russia, 1958), PhD (Federal Nuclear Center, Russia, 1970), D.Sc. (P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute, Moscow, USSR, 1980)

Research Interests include:

• Laser fusion and plasma dynamics
• Phonon excitation and phase transformations
• Generation of super-dense materials through micro-explosions
• Optical memory development in photorefractive media

Collaborations span with Prof. W. Krolikowski, Prof. A. Rode (LPC), and Prof. S. Joudkazis (University of Swinburne) on projects involving ultra-high-density optical storage and terapascal-pressure material synthesis.
