Eugene D'Angelo, PhD is Chief of the Division of Psychology and holds the Linda and Timothy O'Neill Chair in Psychology at Boston Children's Hospital. He is also a Clinical Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and serves as Director of the Outpatient Psychiatry Services.
Dr. D'Angelo received his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1980 and completed his fellowship at Judge Baker Children's Center/Boston Children's Hospital in 1981. He is board certified in Clinical Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology.
His research focuses on developmental psychopathology, particularly early symptoms of psychosis in children and adolescents. He works to identify clinically high-risk youth who also show suicidal ideation and to refine identification of behavioral symptoms below age 10. His work examines cognitive correlates between disorganized thinking, social cognition, and interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, he researches adaptations of evidence-based practices for diverse populations, including cultural adaptations for Latino families.
His publication record demonstrates expertise across multiple domains including child psychosis, autism spectrum disorders, suicidal behavior, and cultural adaptations of mental health interventions. His research shows progression from basic developmental psychopathology to implementation science, with increasing focus on neurobiological markers and genetic factors related to early-onset psychiatric conditions.
