He holds memberships in the Wittgenstein studies and has held prestigious fellowships including Heisenberg Research Reader and Golestan Fellow. His research explores 'Psychological Philosophy,' examining how psychological insights can resolve philosophical problems, particularly through projects like 'Stereotypes in Philosophy' (using eye-tracking) and 'Metaphorical Minds' (computational analogical reasoning models). He has published in journals such as Mind and Language, Synthese, and Cognition.
Key areas of expertise include experimental philosophy, metaphilosophy, philosophical methodology, and Wittgensteinian thought. He has led over 10 research projects funded by institutions like the John Templeton Foundation and Fritz Thyssen Stiftung. Fischer has also authored monographs such as Philosophical Delusion and its Therapy and edited volumes on Wittgenstein's legacy.
His academic service includes roles as Research Director for UEA's Philosophy department, Ethics Officer, and director of postgraduate programs. Teaching focuses on epistemology, philosophy of mind, and Wittgensteinian analysis.
