Dr Euan McCaughey (MEng, PhD, CEng) is a researcher specializing in clinical applications of Abdominal Functional Electrical Stimulation (Abdominal FES) to improve respiratory and bowel function in individuals with spinal cord injuries. He completed his PhD at the University of Glasgow in 2014 and has held positions at the University of Strathclyde, Macquarie University, and Neuroscience Research Australia since 2017. Currently, he serves as Acting Director of Research at the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit in Glasgow.
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, University of Glasgow (2014)
- MEng in Engineering
His research focuses on proving the efficacy of medical technologies through clinical trials, particularly Abdominal FES for spinal cord injury patients. He also investigates the epidemiology of spinal cord injuries, contributing to the development of evidence-based rehabilitation protocols.
Euan's work includes projects like "Abdominal Functional Electrical Stimulation to reduce respiratory complications in spinal cord in acute tetraplegia" and "Early and intensive motor training to enhance neurological recovery in SCI." These align with his broader interests in improving outcomes for individuals with disabilities through technology-driven interventions.
He has been appointed to the Editorial Board of Spinal Cord, a leading journal in spinal injury research, reflecting his expertise in the field. Additionally, he established his own research lab in Sydney during his tenure at Macquarie University and Neuroscience Research Australia.
