Ethan Mereish is an Associate Professor and Director of the Lavender Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. He also holds Adjunct Associate Professor roles at American University and Brown University. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Boston College, a residency at Harvard Medical School, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University. His NIH-funded research focuses on intersectional oppression-based stressors affecting LGBTQ+ and racial/ethnic minority youth, emphasizing resilience promotion through experimental, qualitative, and experience-sampling methodologies.
His educational background includes a B.S. from George Mason University, M.A. from the University of Maryland, and Ph.D. from Boston College. Research interests span minority stress, mental health disparities, substance use, and health equity. Current projects examine daily oppression impacts on LGBTQ+ youth of color’s mental health and substance use. He plans to recruit a clinical psychology doctoral student for 2025-2026.
His work integrates intersectionality theory and community engagement, addressing structural inequities like racism and heterosexism. Key methodologies include experimental designs, diary studies, and mixed-methods approaches. The Lavender Lab serves as a hub for research on LGBTQ+ health and resilience.
