Ethan Ganesh Warren is an Assistant Instructor in the Department of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin, teaching courses in Classical Mythology and Latin across multiple formats including traditional in-person, hybrid, and asynchronous online instruction. He is currently pursuing his PhD after completing his MA at UT Austin.
Education:
- BA in Classics from University of Rochester
- MA in Classics from University of Texas at Austin
Warren's research centers on Latin Elegy, Classical reception (particularly Asian representation), Gender and Sexuality studies, and Digital Humanities. He advocates for pedagogical approaches that connect Greco-Roman texts with diverse cultural traditions like the Mahabharata, arguing that Classics education must evolve to serve an increasingly diverse student population that will be over 50% non-white by 2060.
As a South Asian classicist, Warren actively contributes to diversity initiatives in the field. He serves as Financial Officer for the Asian and Asian American Classical Caucus (AAACC), where he works to increase South Asian representation within the organization. His perspective as the child of Indian immigrants who initially questioned his Classics path informs his advocacy for inclusive classroom practices that don't place undue burden on minority students.
Warren began Latin studies in seventh grade at Brookfield Academy in Wisconsin and was heavily involved in Junior Classical League throughout high school. Despite early parental concerns about the practicality of Classics, he has become a vocal advocate for the field's relevance to diverse audiences. He is also a national champion quidditch player, demonstrating engagement beyond academia.
