Plaue's research explores the intersections of media, science, and literature in American Romanticism. His current book project examines the intellectual history of mediation through transnational American Romanticism, analyzing works by authors like Hannah Crafts and Ralph Waldo Emerson alongside archival materials such as patents and scientific papers. This work bridges historical discourse on mediation with contemporary understandings of our mediated age.
He has taught courses on data and democracy, American Gothic literature, literatures of the apocalypse, and creative writing.
