Esther Algarra Prats

Esther Algarra Prats is a full Professor of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Alicante. She has earned four research six-year periods (sexenios) and one transfer six-year period, reflecting her sustained academic contributions. Her work spans diverse areas of Civil Law, with particular focus on Environmental Law, Tort Law, Family Law, and Legal Protection of the Elderly.

• Education: Law Degree and Doctor of Law from the University of Alicante
• International Experience: Research stays at Université Pantheon-Assas (Paris), Westfälische Wilhelms Universität (Münster), Max-Planck Institute (Hamburg), Università di Perugia (Italy), and Universidad Católica (Chile)

Research Activities include coordination of the Ministerio de Educación project New challenges of biomedical law in the civil legal protection of older persons. She has participated in eight national R&D projects, two Prometeo (GV) projects, and one European Union initiative. Her recent publications focus on harmonization of marital property regimes, posthumous moral rights, and legal frameworks for cryopreserved preembryos.

She serves on the Scientific Committee of Actualidad Jurídica Iberoamericana and as external evaluator for Derecho Privado y Constitución. Additionally, she has held significant administrative roles including Secretaria General of the University of Alicante (2015-2024) and Presidenta del Grupo de Protocolo de CRUE (2015-2024).
