Estella Weigelt

Dr. Estella Weigelt is a geophysicist at the Alfred Wegener Institute, specializing in marine geology and paleoclimatology. Her research focuses on Arctic and Antarctic basin evolution, ice sheet dynamics, and seismic stratigraphy. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in polar regions, including the Amundsen Sea Embayment and Lomonosov Ridge. Weigelt's work integrates seismic data with sedimentological and palynological analyses to reconstruct past climate and tectonic processes. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to international expeditions like the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP).
