Dr. Esra Kurul is a Reader in Organisational Studies in the Built Environment at the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University. She leads the University's Sustainable & Resilient Futures Network and co-leads the Smart Construction & Impact Assessment Group. Her teaching focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration, project management, and sustainability in the built environment. She holds a PhD from UCL, an MA from the University of York, and a BArch from METU.
Her research emphasizes sustainability, climate adaptation, and knowledge transfer in construction projects. Key interests include energy retrofit, transdisciplinary pedagogies, and the integration of BIM and Building Management Systems. She has supervised numerous PhD students and secured grants for collaborative research with institutions like Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
Awards include the 2018 Emerald Literati Outstanding Paper Award and the 2018 Brookes Teaching Innovation Award. Her work bridges academic research and industry practice, addressing global challenges in urban sustainability and climate resilience.
