Erwan Morellec

Erwan Morellec is a Full Professor of Finance at the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI) @ EPFL and holder of a Swiss Finance Institute senior chair. He serves as Director of the Swiss Finance Institute at EPFL, Head of the SFI nation-wide PhD Program, and a CEPR Research Fellow. His expertise spans corporate finance, corporate governance, and sustainable finance. He teaches courses such as Introduction to Finance, Theoretical Corporate Finance, and Principles of Finance.

He holds a PhD in Finance (summa cum Laude) from HEC Paris. His research focuses on capital structure, debt policies, climate-related financial risks, and shareholder activism, published in top journals like the Journal of Finance and Review of Financial Studies. He has advised numerous PhD students and contributes to academic leadership roles at EPFL’s College of Management of Technology (CDM).

His awards highlight both research and teaching excellence. He leads the SFI-EM lab, focusing on asset pricing and financial markets. Current projects address climate risk in banking, innovation financing, and governance dynamics.
