Errol Barron serves as a Professor at Tulane University's School of Architecture, where he has spent decades teaching observational drawing of campus buildings and documenting architectural heritage through watercolor sketchbooks.
His research centers on architectural history and drawing methodology, emphasizing connections between Tulane's historic Romanesque Revival structures (like Gibson Hall) and their inspirations. Barron developed a signature pedagogical approach where he walks students through campus quadrangles to analyze building styles within their geographical context, noting how the campus layout reflects 300-year-old French surveying techniques.
Barron recently published a sketchbook on Tulane's iconic architecture following his earlier works "New Orleans Observed" and "Roma Osservata". The book features his original watercolor illustrations organized along the campus axis from St. Charles Avenue to Claiborne Avenue, informed by historical research from "Tulane Places" and interviews with former University Architect Collette Creppell. His work bridges academic instruction with public-facing architectural documentation, available through Octavia Books.
