Prof. Dr. Erol YILDIR is a Professor and Dean at Kastamonu University's Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Painting. He holds a Bachelor's (1984) and Master's (1987) from Gazi University, and an Artistic Proficiency (PhD equivalent, 1990) from İnönü University. Previously, he held academic positions at İstanbul Gelişim University, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University, and İnönü University.
His research focuses on Painting, Printmaking, and Interdisciplinary Art, with emphasis on Caucasian cultural heritage, equestrian iconography in European art, and traditional textile crafts. His publications analyze ethno-historical narratives, art education methodologies, and architectural preservation.
Publications (2015–2021) predominantly explore Caucasian material culture (Chechen tower architecture, felt craftsmanship) and European art history (equestrian motifs from Uccello to Géricault). Recent works address pandemic-era art pedagogy challenges.
