Erol Tutumluer is the Abel Bliss Professor and Director of International Programs in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on transportation geotechnics, pavement engineering, and geosynthetic applications. He leads projects on railway ballast durability, recycled materials, and sensor-based infrastructure monitoring. Tutumluer has pioneered the use of bender element sensors and deep learning for assessing geotechnical materials.
